Family members have knowledge and expertise that they have acquired during a lifetime of knowing and loving a person.
We believe it is our role to listen to, value and respect families of people we support. By working together, we can ensure each person has the right support provided by the right people in their life.
Our experience has shown that many families have support needs which may not be recognised or met. Our Family Support Service aims to ensure families have the support they need to live a good life.
Our Family Support Services team offer advice, support and information to families and carers of people we support, including:
- Outreach support and visits to you at home
- Advocacy for families and carers
- Support at meetings
- Advice on your rights as a carer
- Advice on benefits, grants and personal budgets
- Signposting to other services
The Family Support Services mission is to:
- Listen to people
- Care about family members
- Be responsive
- Show integrity
- Advocate for people
- Be innovative and creative
- Create opportunities
- Empower people
Lorraine Jarman, Family Support Manager says:
“The most important part of my job is to ensure that families have a voice. I’m passionate about supporting families and it’s great to be working for an organisation that feels as passionately as I do about this.
I have over 30 years experience working with people with learning disabilities. I started out as a Learning Disability Nurse then worked for many years managing residential and supported living services.
My experience has given me a wide range of knowledge that I am able to utilise in my work with families. It is my job to ensure that you get all the support and services available to you.”
