Sainsbury’s Partnership Launch

Cakes and Chat on Balham High Road

On Saturday 30th August we launched our brand new Charity of the Year partnership with Sainsbury’s in Balham. We had a pop-up stall in the front of the busy store on Balham High Road and spent the day distracting people from their weekly shop and talking to them about the work we do in Wandsworth while they enjoyed a free cupcake or four.

People were brilliant (people are brilliant). So open to talking to us, so interested in who we are and what we’re about. When you’re talking to people about learning disabilities and mental health, it’s amazing how often someone says they have lived experience, or their mother-daughter-father-brother has a learning difficulty or has experienced mental ill-health. Talk about a good life and it’s universal, the connection is made in an instant. People get it. I lost count of the handshakes and ‘keep up the good work’s.

I was joined on the day by Jimmy, Rachel, Lincoln, Mandeep, Sabina and Claire, our new Shared Lives Manager. Big thanks to them for running the show while I did virtually nothing. We’re holding events at Sainsbury’s until next summer to raise funds and awareness for our work in Wandsworth, so check back for more updates and a few surprises!
